SITE COORDINATORS

Diane Mokuau, Molokai Site Coordinator, joined Read Aloud America in January 2008. Born in Honolulu and raised in an Army family, Diane moved to Molokai in 1988. A Librarian at Molokai High School, she has four daughters, ranging in age from 16-25.

Larry Laird, Maui Site Coordinator, is a retired Director of Human Resources and School Principal from San Jose Unified School District in San Jose, California. After 34 years in education, he retired and moved to Maui in 2003. He now gives workshops for elected student leaders at high schools and middle schools statewide. He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Kihei Sunrise, a Co-Director of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp Program, and a member of Mayor’s Affirmative Action Advisory Council.

Emily Mendez-Bryant , Big Island Site Coordinator, is also the Community Relations Director for Kona Community Hospital and Kohala Hospital. There, she started successful community programs such as Ladies Night Out, the Hope Event, and the Medical Academy Science and Health Camp. Emily previously lived in Seattle, WA, working as a Case Design Specialist and Marketing Coordinator at a wealth management firm. She has been a volunteer since high school, holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Washington, is currently pursuing her MBA at the the University of Massachusetts - Amherst and is a member of the Rotary Club of Kona Mauka. Her favorite author is Amy Tan.
